The snow has melted and the days are longer; now its time to break out the mountain bikes and head to Silver Mountain Bike Park! Our trail crew has been hard at work carefully manicuring our trails to the highest standard. With trails for every skill level, you and the family are sure to have a blast in our park, whether this is your first time mountain biking or you are a seasoned pro.
As you plan your visit to Silver Mountain Resort, we are here to help you prepare for your visit. By following these tips and tricks, you will be fully prepared to enjoy every inch of our 40+ trails and 3400’ of vertical descent.
Choosing a bike based on your size, skill, and trail preference will make a huge difference on your mountain biking experience. Because of the nature of our terrain, we recommend a full-suspension bike with at least 150 mm of front travel. You can always talk to our friendly and knowledgeable team of professional bike mechanics at Silver Mountain Sports Shop. They will let you know what to expect on the trails and can help you rent from our top-of-the-line fleet of Commencal and Norco mountain bikes. More information on rentals can be found here.
Note: Class-1 E-bikes and pedal-assist bikes are allowed on the trails. However, all the trails at Silver Mountain are downhill-only, so no uphill travel is permitted. Load them in the gondola, then let gravity do its thing once you get to the top!
Once you have chosen your bike, the next step is gathering the gear you’ll need for the trail. Safety is your top priority when it comes to gear. We recommend wearing a full armor kit that includes a full-face helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and gloves. This armor is available to rent in Silver Mountain Sports Shop if you don't have your own.
Kellogg is an amazing place to be in the summertime, with sunny, blue skies for most of the season. As such, a full water bottle and plenty of sunscreen is a necessity for a great day on the mountain.
Gear Checklist:
While your body armor provides an outer layer of protection, the clothing you choose to wear underneath it will play a big role in your enjoyment of the mountain. Generally, the temperature on the mountaintop will be 10-15 degrees cooler than the temperature in town. Plan your attire accordingly and bring a backpack for extra layer storage. We recommend well-fitting mountain bike jerseys, bike pants/shorts, and a wind/water-resistant jacket to keep you warm and dry.
Anything can happen on the trails, and if your bike becomes unrideable, you might be looking at a long walk back to the resort. It is always a good idea to carry extra tools and supplies to fix your bike just in case. These tools could include:
We have a team of professionally trained patrollers who respond quickly to emergencies anywhere on the mountain. While we hope you never have to use their services, it is a good idea to save their phone number just in case. They can be reached at 208-784-1943.
Just like skiing, our trails are categorized by difficulty: green marks the beginner trails, blue trails are more difficult, and black and double-black are the most difficult. No matter your skill level, it is generally a good idea to start on an easier trail to warm up for your day of riding. Check out the chart below to know when you should move up in trail difficulty. We recommend being comfortable with the Jackass trail before venturing out for a full top-to-bottom lap to town.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions that still need answering. We hope you have a fantastic time visiting our bike park!
